The American Community Survey (ACS) is an annual survey of one percent of the U.S. population. The ACS has replaced the long-form census as the source for detail information about individuals and households. Because it is a survey derived from a sample, reported values have margins of error. The margins of error grow larger for small areas and when using one-year averages. Most of the data in SAVI uses five year averages, meaning the reported estimates are from surveys collected over five years.
