The percent of ALICE households reflects those households that are above the federal poverty level but which do not earn enough income to maintain a minimum survival household budget. That budget incorporates a variety of living expenses such as housing, food, child care, health care, and transportation. United for ALICE is a collaborative effort between local United Ways and other nonprofits. The United Way of Northern New Jersey has responsibility for producing ALICE data for multiple states.
