The International Trade Administration publishes data on the import and export of goods. These data are based on transportation records. This is the value of all goods shipped from Indianapolis, not necessarily produced in Indianapolis. In some cases, an exporter may ship goods that were produced in another region or state. These exports only includes goods, but services are also a major export. For example, if an engineering firm sells its services to another city or country, or if a student from another country attends one of our universities, these count as service exports.
