On August 11, in collaboration with WFYI Public Media, the Indianapolis Public Library-Central, and Sun King Brewing, Polis Interim Community Analysis Manager Matt Nowlin will present new research at Data & Drafts: Developing a Real-Time Eviction Tracker.
He will cover evictions trends since 2021, explore the potential for an automated eviction tracking tool in Indianapolis, and discover large property owners with the highest eviction filing rates.
There have been more than 11,000 evictions filed in Marion County in the first six months of 2022. 75% of eviction filings come from frequent evictors (those who have filed 10 or more evictions in the last six months). 65% of evictions are in large apartment complexes, even though only 14% of rental households are in large complexes.
Fifty property owners account for more than half of eviction filings, many of which are private equity firms and Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) from other states.
