On Oct. 8, we present SAVI TALKS: A comprehensive look at the effects of COVID-19 in Indianapolis. Our city is in the midst of multiple crises: a pandemic, massive job loss, and, stemming from those crises, unparalleled risk of housing loss, food insecurity, widening of educational inequities, and more. With almost 20,000 cases of COVID-19 in Marion County, an unemployment rate between 10-14% since April, and between one third and one half of Indiana residents at risk of eviction or foreclosure, this is one of the most difficult challenges ever faced by Indianapolis families and the public and nonprofit organizations that serve them. Join the SAVI team at 9:30 a.m. for a discussion of the neighborhood-level impacts of these issues. We will look at the hardest hit neighborhoods and their demographic characteristics. The analysis will include up-to-date local information about COVID-19 cases, unemployment, housing needs, food insecurity, and other areas of need. We will also present an impact index to understand disparate impacts across neighborhoods.
