Families often choose where to live based on neighborhood characteristics, especially the quality and reputation of nearby schools. But we live in a highly mobile society, in a rapidly changing region, and many of Central Indiana’s neighborhoods have seen significant change in their residents and their schools. A generalized understanding of school characteristics and how they change over time is complicated by the numerous metrics used to describe school quality and performance, as well as shifting policies governing school assessment and ratings. This report analyzes publicly available data at the school level to summarize key indicators of change and how that change can be understood at the community and regional levels.
